JOB SUMMARY:

Operates a transit bus for the purpose of transporting public passengers on an established operating schedule

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates a transit vehicle ensuring time schedules are adhered to and ensuring safety of passengers and the public; ensures for proper conduct of transit passengers
  • Ensures bus fares are provided, checks for valid tickets, carries out a daily passenger count, changes transit signs on bus stations
  • Cleans the interior and exterior of the transit vehicle by using cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Assists wheelchair passengers on and off the transit vehicle; assists the elderly and physically challenged on and off the transit vehicle; ensures that wheelchairs and scooters are properly secured
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Operates City vehicles (Class II with Air or lesser)
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Valid B.C. Class 2 Driver's License with Air Endorsement
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 months previous experience driving a Class II vehicle

  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2018 pay rate of $27.50 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK:

Up to 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week and may include early morning, evening and weekend shifts.
