JOB SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of building and operational services maintenance functions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs operational services maintenance such as shovelling, raking, wheel barrowing dirt and construction materials, traffic control, cleaning and painting hydrants, asphalt patching
  • Assists in maintenance and construction projects involving grounds, roads, hydrants, sanitary sewer and storm utilities
  • Prepares work areas and surfaces prior to painting
  • Performs light building, plumbing and electrical maintenance
  • Cleans up construction debris and picks up and delivers materials between City buildings, material suppliers and work sites
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Uses forklift and small hand and power tools
  • Operates City vehicles (Class 3 with Air or lesser)
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Traffic Control Person Certificate
  • Forklift Training
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2018 pay rate of $26.43 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK:

7:30 – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, up to 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
