JOB SUMMARY:

Performs janitorial duties in City facilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs janitorial functions such as cleaning washrooms, upholstery, floors, and doors and windows
  • Collects and removes garbage and recycling from inside City buildings
  • Liaises with building users to coordinate setting up furniture and equipment and required cleaning
  • Replenishes adequate cleaning supplies and dispenser articles
  • Notifies supervisor of building damage
  • Performs electrical maintenance such as changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; replaces water filters and air filters
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Operates City vehicles (Class 5) and cleaning equipment
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Building Service Worker 1
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
  • R.C.M.P. Enhanced Security Clearance
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • After 6 months janitorial experience as Janitor I, automatically moves to Janitor II if accredited janitorial maintenance course has been completed
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2018 pay rate of $26.43 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK:

5:30 am – 12:00 midnight, Monday through Sunday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
