JOB SUMMARY:
Delivers specialized personal training services to Recreation Complex clients with high performance athletic or special medical needs
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and delivers personalized training programs according to industry standards and approved formats; assesses client medical and physical activity history, demonstrates exercises, instructs clients on effective workout methods and proper technique, observes and gives feedback, monitors client safety and progress
- Ensures patrons adhere to the rules and regulations of fitness facilities
- Answers client questions and solicits feedback; reports regularly to Supervisor
- Sets up and takes down program equipment and ensures the room is left tidy and secure
- Cleans equipment and verifies its safe working condition; reports any items needing repair to the Supervisor
- Administers First Aid to Recreation Complex users when required
- Attends crew safety talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
- Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12)
- Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or Physical Education
- Personal Training Certificate (or equivalent i.e. BCRPA, CanFItPro, ASCM, NSCA, CFES or ACE)
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate with CPR A
- W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
- A.E.D. Training
- Current membership or eligibility for membership with a Provincial, National or International Fitness Industry Association (i.e. BCRPA, NCSA, CFES, ACE)
- Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year of experience as a personal trainer
- An equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current 2018 pay rate of $30.72 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
Varied schedule including evenings and most weekends
