JOB SUMMARY:

Delivers aquatic programs ensuring the supervision and safety of participants. Teaches swimming and water safety skills and performs light maintenance at the aquatic facility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all participants adhere to the rules and regulations of the Aquatic Facility
  • Plans and delivers swimming lessons and water safety skills; demonstrates skills, observes participants and gives feedback, evaluates and reports on participant progress
  • Attends crew safety talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Administers First Aid to Recreation Complex users when required
  • Maintains water chemistry by testing and regulating chemicals such as chlorine and soda ash
  • Monitors the pool filtration and water treatment equipment
  • Maintains equipment; checks and reports any items needing attention to the Supervisor
  • Performs light maintenance duties; hosing, mopping and glass cleaning
  • May relieve Reception staff as required
  • Maintain professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
  • National Lifeguard Pool Certificate
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • A.E.D. Training
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 months of leadership, instructing or supervisory experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education 

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2018 pay rate of $25.34 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 HOURS OF WORK:

Varied schedule including early morning, evenings and most weekends.
