JOB SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of building and operational services maintenance functions
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs operational services maintenance such as shoveling, raking, wheel barrowing dirt and construction materials, traffic control, cleaning and painting hydrants, asphalt patching
- Assists in maintenance and construction projects involving grounds, roads, hydrants, sanitary sewer and storm utilities
- Prepares work areas and surfaces prior to painting
- Performs light building, plumbing and electrical maintenance
- Cleans up construction debris and picks up and delivers materials between City buildings, material suppliers and work sites
- Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
- Uses forklift and small hand and power tools
- Operates City vehicles (Class 3 with Air or lesser)
- Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12)
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement (Class 3 Driver’s License preferred)
- W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
- Traffic Control Person Certificate
- Forklift Training
- Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year related experience
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current 2022 pay rate of $28.61 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
Varied schedule may include daytime, evening and weekend shifts. Most frequently hours occur 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, up to 8 hours per day, up to 40 hours per week.
