JOB SUMMARY:

Reviews and prepares simple to medium-complexity community plans, policies and development applications.  Assists professional planning staff on a variety of strategic, social, economic and environmentally sustainable actions

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs research and analyzes data related to land use planning and development, and other related matters
  • Prepares draft plans, agreements, covenants, easements, right-of-ways, policies and land use bylaws
  • Attends internal and external meetings to provide technical planning expertise
  • Administers bylaws and policies related to land use planning and ensures compliance with the Local Government Act and the Community Charter
  • Liaises with various internal and external agencies and groups concerning city development policy and land use control
  • Reviews subdivision applications and servicing and works proposals related to development. Conducts site inspections
  • Prepares and updates land database, reports, statistics and mapping
  • Provides clerical and records management support for the Division
  • Responds to requests for property related information
  • Attends division safety talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • 2 years post secondary study in local government planning, geography or other related field
  • Accredited training (6 months) in computer software and operating systems relative to administrative support
  • Working knowledge of the Community Charter, the Local Government Act, and the land use related bylaws, plans and policies of the City
  • Working knowledge of GIS-information related databases
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s Planning Services Department computer applications, administrative systems and office technology as required

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 6 months experience in development services in the local government sector including; preparation of bylaws, legal agreements, requests for proposals, maintaining databases and digital records management
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

 

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $34.08 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day, 35 hours per day
