JOB SUMMARY:

Plans and maintains computers and related City information technology systems, including the local area network.  Provides Help Desk support to City staff.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the administration and maintenance of the City’s network server systems; configure, reconfigure, maintain and support computer and communications equipment including PC workstations, mobile terminals, servers, printers, plotters, scanners, fax machines, photocopiers, digital cameras, radios, phones, GPS systems and all other peripheral equipment.
  • Assists with planning, prioritizing and evaluating computer software, hardware and related equipment needs
  • Provides Help Desk support to systems users
  • Creates, update and delete user accounts including Active Directory user accounts
  • Configures, maintain and access City security camera systems and report findings to respective authorities
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality
  • Maintains and repair PCs and related equipment; coordinate warranty work and major repairs with external vendors as directed; install hardware and software
  • Creates, maintain and deploy Windows desktop images
  • Monitors the daily operation of the Local Area Network; report problems to the Manager of Information Technology; carry out fixes as appropriate
  • Monitors daily system/server backups and perform recovery operations as needed
  • Assists with the installation and maintenance of server and network hardware and software
  • Monitors and maintain wireless networks
  • Configures and maintain NAS devices used for local site storage
  • Configures, deploy and support City employees’ mobile phones and tablets
  • Performs inventory for computers, peripherals, networks and related equipment
  • Purchases software, small equipment and parts as required
  • Reports to the Manager of Information Technology on problems, outages, failures, upgrades and needs
  • Provides input on IT policies and procedures, and written work procedures for division’s staff duties as requested
  • Writes procedures for end users
  • Provides IT related training for all employees
  • Provides technical support for staff and elected officials during online and livestreaming of Committee and Council meetings
  • Attends safety talks and required safety training; follow safe work procedures; report hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Operates small hand and power tools
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position and update personal knowledge with available training
  • Maintains R.C.M.P Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance eligibility
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Diploma in Information Technology or related field
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
  • R.C.M.P. Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance at all times
  • Ladder Safety Training
  • Safe Lifting Training
  • Fall Protection Training
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows operating systems, desktop computers and a wide variety of software applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and provide training at all levels within the organization
  • Working knowledge of local and wide area Microsoft networks
  • Up to date knowledge of specific computer applications, administrative systems and office technology as required
  • Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years experience in Help Desk support, PC hardware maintenance and network troubleshooting 
  • 5 years experience monitoring systems operations and security which may be concurrent with the above
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

 

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $36.79 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week
