JOB SUMMARY:
Ensures basic sound and lighting requirements are provided for events and performances at Recreation Complex venues and attends to various production needs as required.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates sound systems, computerized lighting boards, dimmers, mixing consoles, and other audio-visual equipment for the theatre and other Recreation Complex venues
- Monitors technical equipment during events and adjusts or repairs as required
- Maintains equipment; checks and reports any items needing attention to Theatre Technician II
- Works with a variety of community groups and organizations as assigned
- Attends crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries, and near misses
- Assists the Theatre Technician II in providing information and technical assistance to promoters and facility users
- Secures exits and entrances to the theatre
- Operates equipment such as personnel lift and small hand and power tools
- Performs light janitorial duties in the theatre such as mopping and sweeping
- Operates City vehicles (Class 5 or lesser)
- Maintain professional and technical requirements for the position
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12)
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- Fall Protection Training
- Personnel Lift Training
- WHMIS Certificate
- AED Training
- Up-to-date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems, and office technology as required
- Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 6 months previous theatre technical experience
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $26.94 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS of WORK:
Varied hours including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
