JOB SUMMARY:
Assists with the new installation or maintenance and/or construction of water, sanitary sewer or storm sewer mains and services
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs labouring, maintenance and construction functions in the water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains and services areas in the Water Section
- Locates water, sewer, and gas service lines (BC One-Call) for pre-construction
- Performs pressure tests and disinfects new or repaired water main installations
- Removes, installs and maintains fire hydrants
- Adjusts manhole frames and lids, catch basin grates and water valve lids to correct elevations in preparation for road improvements or landscaping
- Operates forklift, small hand and power tools and other equipment
- Operates City vehicles (Class 5 with Air or lesser)
- May be required to work outside of regular hours to deal with emergencies
- May be required to fulfill standby responsibilities on a rotating schedule
- Maintain professional and technical requirements for the position
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12)
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement
- E.O.C.P. Wastewater Collection Level I Certificate
OR
- E.O.C.P. Water Distribution Level I Certificate
- W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
- Traffic Control Person Certificate
- Forklift Training
- Confined Space Entry Training
- Shoring and Excavation Training
- Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year as required for E.O.C.P. Level I Certificate
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $30.50 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
