JOB SUMMARY:
Assists with the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s sewage treatment facilities and related infrastructure
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans screens, tanks and other equipment as necessary
- Maintains associated records and supplies
- Performs basic building, equipment and facilities maintenance including cleaning and sweeping
- Assists with the maintenance and repair of electric motors and pumps
- Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
- Operates City vehicles (Class 5)
- Operates equipment such as high pressure washer, forklift, and small hand and power tools
- Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12)
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
- E.O.C.P. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Level 1 Certificate, and/or Wastewater Collection Level 1
- W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
- Confined Space Entry Training
- Forklift Training
- Basic knowledge of SCADA operation
- Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner
- Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 1 year of experience as required for E.O.C.P. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Level 1 Certificate
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $29.33 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
