JOB SUMMARY:

Provides drafting and information services relating to the Engineering Services Department

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scans, plots and completes a variety of technical drawings
  • Records and maintains all service information and construction records
  • Performs Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) maintenance and revision of all drawing, utility databases, drawing indexes, record drawings, base maps and utility plans
  • Performs preliminary engineering review of Planning Services projects; building permits, subdivisions, development permits and development variance permits
  • Conducts engineering project site inspection and reporting, ensuring compliance with contracts and design drawings
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and staff on routine engineering matters and initiates calls for service
  • Orders printing and drawing media and material inventory
  • Provides survey assistance
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
  • 1 year post-secondary certificate in GIS, drafting or related field
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the A.S.T.T.B.C.
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s drafting/survey related software applications, administrative systems and office technology as required
  • Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
  • Experience working with range of ESRI based software products
  • Knowledge of the integrated Cadastral Information Society, BC Digital Road Atlas, and Parcel Map BC.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year related experience using CAD, GIS and drafting related software applications in local government
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

 

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2023 pay rate of $32.88 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday EXCEPT during daylight saving time – 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, 7 hours per day and 35 hours per week
