JOB SUMMARY:

Provides clerical and cashiering support to the Financial Services Department and relieves for the Accounting Clerk - Cashier

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Accounting Clerk - Cashier with clerical and cashiering tasks as assigned
  • Provides designated relief for Accounting Clerk – Cashier
  • Fulfills internal and external cashier related requests to the Financial Services department, such as annual property tax payments, moorage payments, garbage tag purchases, dog license purchases, insurance claim form distribution, grant application distribution, and other related requests
  • Rolls and counts coin and prepares bank deposits
  • Responds to basic internal and external job-related questions
  • Performs data entry and other clerical support tasks
  • Processes outgoing mail
  • Provides professional and efficient customer service
  • Maintains job-related records in accordance with the City’s Records Management Program
  • Participates in improvements to job-related policies, procedures, processes, and systems
  • Attends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near misses
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Minimum alphanumeric net data entry speed of 6000 keystrokes per hour
  • Minimum net typing speed of 40 words per minute
  • Basic spreadsheet and word processing capabilities (Microsoft Excel and Word)
  • 1-year full-time accounting related certificate from an accredited post secondary institution (must include a minimum of 3 accounting courses)
  • Able to operate job-related software programs, administrative systems and office technology
  • Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 6 months of related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

 

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current 2025 pay rate of $32.64 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, up to 7 hours per day, up to 35 hours per week.

 

Please note: This position is to provide support to cover for absences such as sick and vacation relief and requires availability for both short-notice and pre-scheduled work.
