JOB SUMMARY:
Develops, coordinates, and oversees delivery of community events and the marketing and communications needs for the Parks, Recreation and Culture department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses and evaluates the recreation needs and interests of the community; develops and implements community events to meet the needs of participants of all ages as well as special interest groups
- Assesses the marketing and communications needs of the department; develops and implements marketing and communications plans
- Plans, coordinates, promotes, administers and oversees the delivery of community events, including facility and equipment use
- Creates, designs, formats, writes, edits and produces print and digital materials, signage and communications
- Maintains and updates department websites and social media accounts
- Liaises with and provides technical and planning assistance to a variety of community organizations
- Inventories and evaluates need for new equipment and program supplies and assists with acquisitions
- Prepares and monitors department’s marketing and events operating budgets
- Prepares proposals and assists the department in obtaining Federal, Provincial and or private funding for projects designed to meet the recreational needs of the community
- Schedules, supervises and evaluates the performance of event staff and volunteers; ensures required training is provided and coordinates volunteer recruitment
- Administers contracts for special event organizers, vendors and contractors;
- Attends division safety talks and conducts crew safety meetings; ensures employees follow safe work procedures and have required safety training and equipment; conducts safety inspections of worksites and equipment and ensures corrective measures are taken
- Operates City vehicles (Class 4 or less)
- Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
- Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner
- Performs related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School (Grade 12)
- A degree in Recreation Management or Marketing, or related field
- Valid B.C. Class 4 Driver’s License
- W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
- A.E.D Training
- Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years of community recreation and events management experience, including marketing
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current pay rate of $40.95 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
6:00 am to Midnight, Monday through Sunday, 7 hour day – 35 hour week.
(This position requires some availability outside regular working hours to support events and programs.)
