JOB SUMMARY:

Operates equipment used for City utility construction and maintenance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates City vehicles (Class 3 with Air or lesser) and small multi-purpose equipment with a bucket capacity up to 2 cubic yards
  • Locates water, sewer and gas service lines (BC One-Call) for pre-construction
  • Excavates and backfills for utility installations, removes trees and stumps, loads materials to trucks and soil shredder
  • Operates equipment to lift and place pipe for water and sewer utility installation
  • Using hand tools to clear snow and ice from parking areas, roads, pedestrian walkways, carries out salting and sanding
  • Ensures for safe operation of equipment; performs light maintenance such as lubrication, fluid checks and changing oil
  • Maintains professional and technical requirements for the position
  • Performs related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School (Grade 12)
  • Valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement
  • E.O.C.P. Water Distribution Level 1 Certificate
  • E.O.C.P. Wastewater Collection Level 1 Certificate
  • Traffic Control Person Certificate
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Shoring and Excavation Certificate
  • Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner
  • Up to date knowledge of the City’s computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years as required for E.O.C.P Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Level 1 Certificates
  • 6 months experience with similar equipment (which may be concurrent with the above)
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current pay rate of $37.93 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK:

7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
